Tabs and tabbed browsing

At first glance, they look like little labels living above the site you're currently visiting. But they are a brilliant way to browse multiple sites at once. Simple and easy, you can think of them as the electronic version of a well kept filing cabinet, with the tabs as the dividers and the sites as the content kept in folders. Each new site appears as a new tab (not a new window) and can be accessed in one click.

Exercise

Open a fresh Firefox window.
Now open one tab (Ctrl + t), click on it and enter auroville.org.in. Press enter.
Repeat this step with yahoo.com , wiki.auroville.org.in and bbc.co.uk
By now you should have 4 tabs open.

Go to any of those 4 tabs and look at the website. Then drag one tab onto your bookmarks toolbar bar and drop it there. What happens?
Repeat this with all the other sites.

Then delete all bookmarks from the personal address bar (try the right click!)

Now go with the right click on your personal address bar and make a folder called daily

Go to each tab and bookmark each site this time inside the folder. If you have done that successfully close all open tabs.

Now go to your folder and open the links you want. Close the tabs afterwards. Can you open all links at once? How?

Close all tabs and type bbc.co.uk or yahoo.com into the remaining one. Then open different links from this websites with the middle click (the wheel of the mouse) of your mouse (nowadays often the wheel). This is an efficient way to browse.

Close all tabs and type google into the remaining one. Enter the keywords auroville community and search. Then open different links with the middle click of your mouse (nowadays often the wheel). This is an efficient way to search. Use Ctrl + f to search for the word community on the different web sites. Highlight them all.
