Internet lesson 3 - homework

Try to avoid doing the homework in the last minute but rather do them in time and email them to bluelight.training@gmx.com. Please do not use the bluelight@auroville.org.in address.

    • Check if the sites you login are secure (https). If they are not only login if you know the site very well like the AV Financial Service site.
    • Don't use weak passwords - use strong ones!
    • Don't use one password to rule them all!
    • Free, free, free - "click here"
    • Discriminate free stuff on the Internet
    • Close the Firefox window open when you leave the computer in an office or public place
    • Be careful with fraudulent web sites (this is part of the intermediate class)
    • If you visit the dark side of the moon - illegal downloads: pirated software, videos, music and ebooks - don't expect fairness or good character from the people involved on the other side of the Internet.
    • Visiting the Internet "red light district" almost certainly will infect your computer with viruses and AIDS!

Visit your favorite news page and read the caption under the picture—or view the picture itself in a size you can see. An elegant new zoom feature lets you swoop in and see entire web pages. They scale in the way you'd expect them to, with all the elements of a page's layout expanding equally, so you can zero in on what matters.

Load any web page you like and use Ctrl and + or Ctrl and - or use the wheel of your mouse while pressing the Ctrl key? What does Ctrl + 0 do?

  1. It would be good if you can repeat the exercises in this lesson once on your computer
  2. What is the zoom function in Firefox? What does Ctrl + 0 do when you use the zoom function?
  3. Why is it a good idea to use more than one keyword in a search engine?
  4. Can you use material from the Internet for any purpose? Are they restrictions?
  5. Name 3 other search engines than the one we used in the class and describe them in one sentence. What are they good for?
  6. Play a little around on the Internet and do things you always wanted to do but run into difficulties because of something you don't understand. Write down your questions and bring them to the next class. We will then try to solve them together as much as possible.
