Blue Light is a City Service that provides Information Technology (IT) support to Auroville with a strong focus on Open Source solutions in the following fields:
Individual Ubuntu installations. We offer to install and maintain the Ubuntu operating system which is Linux based on your computer.
If you run an activity under City Services or SAIIER and are interested to switch your office environment to Linux (with full support through the Blue Light team afterwards), check in with us.
If you plan a new building in AV or want to upgrade your present office and would like to get advice or information about IT infrastructure Blue Light is a good address for a first check in. We consult and implement in this field of activity. We also help you troubleshooting existing networks.
If you want a web page hosted or an online tool or need a server on the Internet Blue Light offers to help to set this up and maintain it for you. We have already some tools available. Check with us.
If you want to run an online survey Blue Light provides you with a survey tool, guides and supports you designing and evaluating the survey.
We offer software consulting which includes accessing your software needs, make you aware of risks, possibilities and solutions available and what costs are involved.
Programming software for your service/unit.
Blue Light offers hardware consultancy. If you want to buy hardware and are not sure what you need you can check in with Blue Light. We will provide you with our knowledge and advise you what to do.
Blue Light offers Linux server installations. If you interested in centralising your data and secure your IT set-up a Linux server might help you.
Commercial Ubuntu (Linux) installations. If you plan to migrate all or part of your commerical office set-up to Ubuntu (Linux) we can help you with the migration and the support afterwards.
If you have any higher end Linux server stuff, databases, Internet hosting stuff, server migrations on the Intenet etc. - check in with Blue Light if we can help.
Some of these services are covered by the Unity Fund and so are “free” for Aurovilians, services or units and some of them are charged for. For details please contact us at bluelight@auroville.org.in or give us a call at 2622500.
Blue Light is located between ACUR and AV Foundation building. The team consists of 4 permanent full time team members as well as various volunteers and “Aurokids”.
